Christmas Tree
Handcrafted Tree Decorations
In 1980 the staff at VanDusen Botanical Garden wanted something to brighten the entrance to the restaurant during the Christmas season. A request for help was made to the Garden Club of Vancouver that started what has now become a Club legacy project.
That first year one of our members led a group that chose a theme, handcrafted decorations and installed a beautiful tree. The tradition continues now with her daughter, who still leads Club volunteers to choose a new theme each year, such as past year’s Woodland Christmas, Village Christmas, Music Music Music, Canada 150, Nature’s Christmas Celebration and a Starry Night. Then they create hundreds of beautiful decorations to adorn a Christmas tree that now graces the entrance to the Visitors’ Centre, and welcomes the thousands of visitors who annually attend the Festival of Lights Celebration.
